Goals for PS1
1. Goal: Establish positive relations with the staff of the school I am assigned to.
Action statement: I will attempt this goal by maintaining my self confidence, introducing myself with a smile, and by observing from the background early on in practicum. I will try to get to know the staff on an individual basis before I invite myself into specific situations in an effort to try to ‘fit in’. I will know I achieved my goal because the staff will reciprocate the warmth and smiles. They may also relay their feelings to my future teaching associate and he/she can relate them to me.
2. Goal: Expand my knowledge of different teaching and learning strategies that are employed every day in the classroom.
Action Statement: I will achieve this goal by asking a lot of questions in practicum about how different strategies are used and in what situations. I will also pursue a self education using the resources at my disposal to improve my knowledge. I will make sure I complete the assignments in classes like curriculum and education psychology to the fullest. I will know that I achieved this goal because I will be able to identify the different strategies as I observe them. I will also be able to build a lesson plan that incorporates one or more of the strategies I learn.
3. Goal: To maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Action statement: I will achieve this by packing a lunch of healthy food most days I go to school. I will pack fruits, granola bars and sandwiches in order to keep my energy up throughout the day. I will bring a water bottle to school with me so that I may stay hydrated and avoid headaches caused by fatigue. I will also make sure I am getting enough rest throughout the week. I know that I function best on 7-10 hours of sleep and will work hard to make sure I get to bed at an appropriate time. I will know that I have achieved this goal because I will be able to maintain my energy level during the school day. I will also be able to make it through the day without feeling excessively tired or fatigued.
4. Goal: To involve myself with extra-curricular activities in and around the school. The goal of this is to get to know some students better and engrain myself into the school community.
Action statement: I will accomplish this by seeking out some after hours school projects that I have interest or some expertise in. Coaching sports, book clubs, and band are just a few of the potential areas I could explore. One of the things I am excited to do as a teacher is to get involved in the school community. I think this can be a great way to build school spirit and get to know different students.
